Lassi is a traditional Indian drink with ancient roots, often made from yogurt blended with water and spices. Historically, lassi has been enjoyed not only as a refreshing drink but also for its cooling and digestive properties. Mango, native to South Asia, has long been cherished as a "king of fruits" for its sweetness and richness. Together, mango and yogurt form a beloved combination that represents the region’s culinary heritage and connection to natural flavors.

Mango lassi is a beloved, refreshing drink that perfectly balances creamy yogurt with the tropical sweetness of mangoes. Originating in India, lassi has been enjoyed for centuries as a cooling beverage, especially in the hot summer months. This version with mangoes adds a fruity twist to the traditional yogurt-based drink. Each sip brings me back to warm summer days spent with my family, enjoying homemade mango lassi as a treat to beat the heat. This simple recipe is a wonderful way to enjoy the rich flavors of ripe mango paired with a hint of cardamom for added depth.

The great thing about this recipe is that you create the serving size based on the size and shape of your serving glasses. You can also add how many servings you want to make and adjust the total preparation time.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 cup chopped very ripe mango (frozen or canned mango works too)
  • 4 teaspoons honey or sugar (adjust to taste)
  • A dash of ground cardamom
  • Ice (optional, for a colder consistency)

Instructions:

  1. Place mango, yogurt, milk, honey or sugar, and cardamom into a blender.
  2. Blend on high for 2 minutes until smooth and creamy.
  3. Pour into glasses and sprinkle with a tiny pinch of ground cardamom before serving.
  4. Optionally, blend in some ice or serve over ice for an extra-cool, milkshake-like consistency.

Note: Store any leftover lassi in the fridge for up to 24 hours.

Pro Tips and Customizations

  • For a vegan option, use plant-based yogurt and milk alternatives, like coconut yogurt and almond milk.

  • To make a thicker lassi, reduce the amount of milk or increase the yogurt.

  • Adjust sweetness by adding more or less honey or sugar to suit your taste.
